Laura Carey earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in International Relations from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in International Politics with a concentration in Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University in Washington DC. She is fluent in Italian, has a strong knowledge of French (studied abroad in Paris, France taking all junior year courses in French), and can communicate fairly well in Spanish. Her teaching experience dates to high school in Italy where she taught English to Ethiopian and Polish refugees as a volunteer. After graduating from college, she taught English as a Second Language (ESOL) and promoted adult literacy as a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. More recently, she has been teaching in the homeschool setting to include Classical Conversations, an Apologia Science Co-op in Virginia, and currently at Timothy Ministry (a K-12 a la carte homeschool program) in Woodstock, GA teaching Earth Science to 3rd and 4th graders.
Laura loves to research, analyze, and write. Her professional background includes editing, research, political analysis and writing for the US Federal Government. Additionally, she served several years as a full-time missionary with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) where she directed children and youth in drama and dance, and also performed. Laura monitored national elections in the Balkans and Armenia, and more recently was a Research Project Coach for FIRST LEGO League Robotics (FLL- competitive robotics). Laura and her husband Rob live in Alpharetta with their three children: Jacob (12), Ezra (9), and Zizi (6) and worship at Radiant Church.
