Figure Drawing & Portraiture (M2:30)
FINALLY, A CLASS DESIGNED TO HELP YOUNG ARTISTS LEARN HOW TO DRAW THE FACE AND THE HUMAN FIGURE!
Drawing faces and people is one of the most challenging aspects of art that nearly everyone wants to know how to do. So this class aims to do just that, teach students how to accurately draw any part of the human form, be it foot, hand or face. This course is designed to introduce students of all skill levels to the very classical drawing practices that enabled the great Art Masters of our past to draw figures and faces so realistically.
Through a series of demonstrations, in-class drawing, group critiques, and individual assistance from the instructor, students will develop their ability to draw convincingly from life. A variety of reference material will be used throughout the year, including photographs selected and supplied by the student. As the course progresses emphasis will be placed upon direct observation using a live model with the focus being to achieve correct form and proportions.
Areas of figure study will include:
Areas of portrait study will include:
By the end of the course, students should feel confident enough in their understanding of basic human proportions to further attempt drawing from life. Students will be able to draw a representational human figure that is accurate and proportionately drawn. Students will also be able to create portraits that are accurately drawn and true to a likeness.
A sketchbook is required for all in-class work. Feel free to use sketchbooks from previous years, provided there is more than half of the book available to use. Sketchbooks will be available for purchase in class for $8.
