This High School level course is also available for motivated 7th and 8th graders. We will look at American History from the pre-Columbian Native American tribes, VA Jamestown/ MA Pilgrim/Puritans to today. Special emphasis will be in God’s sustaining grace in our country’s history, our Constitutional form of government, unique institutions, cultural differences and political progress (or regress) through time. Our primary textbook will be from Bob Jones University Press, “United States History for Christian Schools”, third edition, ISBN 978-1-59166-424-6; by Timothy Keesee supplemented by other readings. Please get a “used textbook”. Students will also be required to do and present a research topic on a particular aspect of American history (event, topic or person each semester. This course will meet the GA high school requirement for two semesters of American History.
The final grade for each semester will be determined by the following method: 10% homework, 10% class participation, 10% quiz, 20% special report presentation to the class, 25% Mid-term examination and 25% Final Exam.
Brad's desire is to put a love of history in the students' hearts by demonstrating that a study of our past explains better our present circumstances, to never understand our past mistakes dooms us to repeat them. History is a lot more than names, dates, battles and leaders, it is a tapestry of God's grace in His dealings with our nation. I am a Christian instructor, therefore, I pray in (and out of) the class that God will bless our endeavors and that He will be glorified through His Son in all we do together.
Grading criteria: Homework (10%); Classroom Participation (10%); Quiz (10%); Classroom Presentation/Project (20%); Mid-term Examination (25%) and Final Examination (25%). Minimum student number 6; maximum 18.
