Biology I: General HS Biology and Lab
High School Biology is designed to provide an overview and introduction to the science of biology from a Christian perspective. Topics covered include: taxonomy, microbiology, cytology, Mendelian genetics, origins (both evolutionary & creationist concepts), ecology, botany, and zoology. Course work includes investigation of basic chemistry of living things; cellular reproduction & DNA; and anatomy and physiology of the various comparative anatomy & physiology of the animal kingdom; and plant anatomy, physiology, and reproduction. Lab work includes various aspects of microscopy (including slide preparation); biochemical experiments; vertebrate & invertebrate dissections; field identification of plants and insects; and preserving and mounting specimens. Students will maintain a lab notebook, further develop science report writing, and presentation skills.
Text material will be supplemented by instructor and online presentations. Select field trip opportunities for additional credit may be provided.
