Chemistry & Lab: HS General
General H.S. Chemistry and Lab is designed as an introductory course with focus on the concepts and practices of modern chemistry. The course includes general problem-solving techniques; physical concepts (phases of matter, etc.); Periodic Law; gas laws; chemical formulas and equations; atomic structure with an introduction to quantum mechanics; solutions; acids, bases, & salts; understanding chemical reactions; thermodynamics; kinetics; and oxidation reduction. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of laboratory experiences and techniques learn through weekly at home textbook assignments, in-class labs and demonstrations, and instructor led discussions. This course meets twice weekly on both Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00-10:30 am. Pre-requisite: Algebra I, Physical Science, and Geometry (may be taken concurrently). Text & supporting materials to be provided by the student: "Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd. Edition" by Plourde, Apologia...ISBN:978-1-940110-25-7....It has a white cover with a steaming red flask on it and a molecular model! (Teacher key may be helpful for parent to help, but not required.
