Salvete! Welcome to the Latin class! A weekly Monday class of 90mn. This class and all the activities attached to it will powerfully impact all of your other language classes. Your spelling will improve, and you will certainly see growth in your vocabulary. You will discover, in tracking down the origins of 60% of our vocabulary from Latin a new depth to our most common words. Latin and English grammar compliment and support each other, clarifying obscure points in both languages, all the while strengthening your writing skills. Forays into the history of ancient Greece and Rome and the mythology emanating from these two civilizations will broaden and deepen your understanding of English classics and of Western civilization.

In grammar this class will review all the grammar previously covered. In addition we will cover the passive voice, deponent verbs, comparatives and superlatives, participles and infinitives,  indirect statements, and various points of syntax . Translation skills will be reviewed and escalated  using more complicated texts. We will investigate the history of Rome during the Empire beginning with Caesar Augustus, and delve more deeply into the mythology of ancient Greece and Rome. Word studies and derivatives are emphasized in all levels.
