History of Christianity (W10:40)
This course will cover the historical development of Christian thought, doctrine, and Christianity’s impact on the world. Students will explore the major periods of Christian history, including the early post-apostolic era, the medieval Church, the Reformation, and modern and contemporary developments. The course investigates how Christian doctrine and institutions developed in response to answer the needs of the culture, as well as how historical forces shaped Christianity into its present forms. Furthermore, although not an apologetics course, students will be equipped to engage in Christian and non-Christian dialogue about the nature of the Christian faith, the nuances of the Church’s historical failures, and the cultural benefits of Christianity. By examining primary and secondary source documents, re-enacting famous debates in Christian theology, and engaging with Christian art, students will learn more about how Christian history is part of the air they breathe, and not merely an artifact that collects dust on the shelf. This course will serve as a history module on transcripts. Tuition and Fees
