Mind-Body Functional Fitness
COURSE DESCRIPTION This semester-long course is designed to help students develop strong bodies, focused minds, and healthy lifelong habits through intentional physical exercise, purposeful movement, and whole-person wellness. Students will learn how to practice self-mastery through discipline, consistency, and wise daily choices related to nutrition, activity, rest, and mindset. Rather than focusing only on workouts, this class integrates structured physical training, functional movement, fitness development, emotional awareness, and character formation to support students’ physical, academic, and personal growth. Students will learn how proper nutrition, hydration, rest, and movement affect energy, mood, focus, and resilience. Through guided instruction and age-appropriate physical activities, students will develop strength, coordination, mobility, and confidence while learning how to care for their bodies responsibly. The course emphasizes physical activity, mental wellness, and biblical principles of stewardship, integrity, and purpose. COURSE STRUCTURE Each class session includes: • 35–45 minutes of guided physical exercise and purposeful movement • 35–45 minutes of classroom instruction, discussion, and reflection This balanced structure allows students to engage both physically and mentally while building lifelong wellness skills. HOMEWORK & PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT Students will be given fun, engaging weekly homework challenges focused on practicing class skills in real-life settings. These activities may include movement challenges, nutrition tracking, mindset exercises, hydration goals, rest routines, and personal wellness reflections. Students will complete and share these challenges weekly as part of skill-building and accountability. Completed assignments will be compiled into a personal end-of-semester wellness portfolio. This portfolio may be used for: • Personal growth reflection • Skill development tracking • Optional Physical Education credit documentation Participation in portfolio development supports long-term habit formation and personal responsibility. This course takes a whole-person approach to wellness by helping students understand how nutrition, movement, mindset, and values work together to support academic success, emotional stability, and personal growth. Rather than promoting short-term performance, this class equips students with practical life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
