Course Description: This course is an elective. It is offered during each semester (fall / spring).  It is designed for hearing students enrolled in American Sign Language (ASL) or anyone with a desire to become proficient in the development of fingerspelling skills. By using the ASL manual alphabet students will develop or increase their level of ASL sign communication.

The course will cover History of fingerspelling use, common faults in fingerspelling, AND expressive (forming words) & receptive (reading words and sentences) use of fingerspelling. We will focus on when to use fingerspelling, the configuration of fingerspelling, closure in fingerspelling, context in fingerspelling, Numbers (numbers are incorporated in fingerspelling when signing concepts) and GLOSSING (translating ASL into written form).

Grades: Grades will be based on homework, quizzes, class participation, attendance and exams (midterm & final)  Grades will be posted in Gradebook.
