World History/Literature
Maximum Enrollment: 20 Minimum Enrollment: 6 Credit: 1 This course focuses on World History and Literature from the Medieval Era to the Modern Era. We will trace various themes in history and examine the literature that coincides with these themes and eras. The book we will use as the primary history text is available at: https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu-oer/13/. This is a fairly solid work on World History, quite colorful with excellent maps, and it covers a broad swath of the Field. The book is free to use. Students will need to download a copy, but do not need to print it. In addition to our history studies, we will be reading various literary sources from World History. Most works will be based on complete novels; however, in Latin America, for example, we will also look at several short stories related to the genre of Magic Realism. Some of the books we will read are Cry the Beloved Country, Hiroshima, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Animal Farm. Students will be engaged in weekly writing assignments, either in online class discussions or in journal writing/reflections, and they will have the opportunity to work on two research papers and write movie reviews. This course is designed to cover both World History and World Literature; therefore, students who need both courses may use it to meet both requirements. On their transcripts, they would list the classes separately and 1 credit for each. For those needing only World History or World Literature, they need only list one on their transcript. Students will be enrolled in Canvas and will submit their work through Canvas. Most colleges and universities now use Canvas or a similar platform, and high schoolers should be prepared for this experience. There is no fee associated with this enrollment. Grades and all work will still be available on Gradebook, and Canvas DOES NOT replace Gradebook. Tuition: Tuition is due on the first day of the fall semester and is $450. An additional $100.00 materials fee is due on the first day of the Fall semester. Tuition for the Spring is $450.00 Questions? Please feel free to reach out to me at gabhistory@gmail.com |
