Spanish 1 provides a comprehensive introduction to the Spanish language and foundational grammar. The instruction emphasizes communicative competence and systematically teaches grammar in context. Students engage in structured speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities designed to build accuracy and confidence.

Content includes: pronunciation and phonetics, noun–adjective agreement, articles, present tense verb conjugation (regular and common irregular verbs), question formation, sentence structure, numbers, dates, and thematic vocabulary. Students memorize core vocabulary and verb conjugations and participate in structured review games to reinforce retention and fluency. Reading selections include brief, level-appropriate stories and cuentos in Spanish that serve as the basis for guided comprehension questions and introductory literary discussions.
