Genre Studies Conversations in Traditional and Contemporary Literature and Media Literary Types and Composition DoE course # 52.09200 Genre Studies is a fascinating literature
course, a deep discussion group, a think tank, and a creative writing lab all
in one!! Genre Studies is a course that
will immerse the student in powerful literature and media to better understand
the power of storytelling, narrative and persuasion. In this course, the
student will read and discuss the most popular fiction and nonfiction genres
including the short story, the poem, the play, the novel, the essay, the speech,
the image, the advertisement, and the short film. Additionally, the student
will think and write not only ABOUT each of these genres but will experiment
with writing IN these forms as well. This means that the student will try a
hand at short story, poetry, screen play, personal essay and speech writing. The student will also experiment with creating
persuasive ads, images and short films. Genre Studies is a Georgia DoE core
course which satisfies one Language Arts literature and writing credit for high
school. The student should be in 10th
grade or higher, possess a desire to converse about great works of literature
and art and be willing to experiment with writing in all its various
forms. Print Texts: The Bedford Introduction to
Literature (a rental textbook and will be distributed at the first class) rental fee: $20 Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
Tuition - $425 per
semester, $800 if paid in full by Sept 7 Supply
Fee – There is an $100 administrative and supply
fee due at the beginning of first semester. Parents
and Students: I would like to meet with you over the
summer to discuss this course, what we will be learning, my expectations for
success and to answer any questions you may have. I will be in touch about
meeting times and places for a coffee shop meeting. Feel free to contact me if you have a specific
