AP US History/ US History HONORS
Maximum Enrollment: 15 Minimum Enrollment: 6 Credit: 1.0 AP US History/HONORS begins with pre-colonial history and concludes in the 21st century. We will journey through colonization, wars, times of peace, expansion, immigration, the Wild West, the Gilded Age, the Depression, New Deals, entangling alliances, civil rights, and the end of the Cold War. The entire class will be taught from a Christian worldview, examining events and interpretations of History to assist students in becoming critical thinkers. Students must complete their work on time and participate in class discussions and presentations. Tests are a combination of multiple choice and essay to prepare for the exam, but they are not weighted. Students will complete TWO collegiate book reviews during the year. Enrollment in the AP US History/HONORS course is a straightforward process. Students will be enrolled in Canvas, a platform widely used by colleges and universities, and will submit their work through it. This experience will prepare high schoolers for the digital learning environment of higher education. The best part? There is no fee associated with this enrollment. Grades and all work will still be available on Gradebook, and Canvas DOES NOT take the place of Gradebook. Hopefully, this will ensure a seamless and comprehensive learning experience. Classwork will, by and large, be the same for AP and HONORS, with variances in difficulty. This will be handled via Canvas so everything is clear. HONORS students will complete two free online courses via Hillsdale College and submit their certificates to the teacher. These courses can be added to the student's transcripts to show future colleges/universities that they have completed them. They are very doable, and your student will profit from them, and again, they are FREE. They are not a substitute for an entire, year-long History course; instead, they are a way to enhance your students' learning. The textbook will be announced in July. Of note, students enrolled in the course DO NOT have to take the end-of-year AP exam to enroll in this class. The choice is up to the student and their parent. Students deciding not to sit the exam will still be expected to participate in ALL classwork. Please understand that this is a rigorous endeavor and should not be entered into lightly. Rest assured, I am here to support you every step of the way, whether you choose to take the exam or not. Tuition: The fall semester's fee is $360, and the spring semester's fee is $450. An additional $100.00 fee for materials and MAS administrative costs is due on the first day of the Fall semester. PLEASE NOTE: The testing fee is NOT included in the cost of the course. Questions?
