Earth Science
This class will accommodate 7th and 8th Middle School Science as well as 9th - 12th High School Science. The syllabus will be adjusted accordingly with Georgia Rigor Standards applied if the student is seeking High School Credit. Earth science covers four broad areas of study: meteorology, geology, oceanography, and astronomy. The class will require weekly reading, note taking, studying, monthly papers, an in person presentation, and regular tests in class without notes. Over the course of the year, we will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects using several different mediums that will make this an exciting and enjoyable class. Topics include, Stars and the Sun, Exploring Space, Minerals, Rocks, Weathering, Erosion, Soil, Karst Topography, Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Geologic Time, Water, Oceans, Weather Masses and Fronts, Weather Forecasting and Climate. REQUIRED TEXT: The softback textbook is Earth Science (2nd Ed) by Stephen Marshak and Robert Rauber. YOU MUST PURCHASE IT NEW - as it will have a unique code in the front to give full access to all the lectures, videos, on line text, flashcards, and required online content. Your student will need access to complete all homework, classwork, and testing content. Tuition: $450 per semester, which includes administrative fees to MAS, is due by the first day of class each semester. |
