Welcome to Metro Players and the art of acting! This class will be structured to explore, expand and refine each student’s natural gifts! We will spend time working on an array of vocal techniques which will add variety and color to their speech, relaxation techniques, and physical awareness and movement. We will also explore ways to achieve complex character development.

In 2024-2025, our main stage production will be a full-length theatrical production at the end of the spring semester with TECH week starting on March 31st and the show running April 3rd, 4th and 5th.  This show WILL BE CAST AT THE BEGINNING of FALL SEMESTER.  In order to participate, students will need to be in Drama class for the entire year. The show selection will be announced before classes start. We WILL ALSO be presenting a special showcase Christmas performance at the end of fall semester on December 6th and 7th.

All students who enroll in the class will receive a speaking role or, in the case of the optional musical scenes, a vocal part, depending on their desire. Each student will be expected to DILIGENTLY work towards memorization of their scripts. The course will emphasize the responsibility of all artists to maintain a respect for Biblical truth when participating or supporting the arts in our culture. Students are also expected and encouraged to interact with each other in a respectful and supportive manner. Scripts will be altered, if necessary, to insure appropriate content. Cell phone and other electronic usage will be strictly limited during rehearsals.

Please note that Drama extended rehearsals (ending at 8:30) are scheduled several times during the semester to give the students ample time to prepare a fabulous production! These extended rehearsals also foster a camaraderie amongst the students, that is so important to a quality production and a positive student experience.

Enrollment is limited to 8th grade and above. This means that students should either be 14 or will turn 14 during the school year.  NO ELECTRONICS ARE PERMITTED IN DRAMA CLASS.

Please note that PARENTAL ASSISTANCE is a crucial aspect of a successful drama production and therefore parents should expect to lend a hand! Fund raising projects are anticipated.  Parents will also be expected to assist in classroom supervision as needed.

Cost: $395 per semester plus a supply fee of $95 per student, per semester with a total of $490 due at beginning of each semester. The supply fee is the only budget that the Drama class works with and contributes to the cost of the theater rental, props, set pieces and costumes.  Sibling discount: 50% off tuition for siblings of full-pay students.   There is also a one time charge to be collected on the first day of classes to cover student’s dinner and snacks during TECH week.  Exact amount to be announced but will not exceed $80.

Scripts and the majority of props will be supplied. Most costume pieces will also be supplied with some items being the responsibility of the student.
