High School Creative Writing

Do you like writing, but don't know where to begin to explore your interest and how to improve? Are you a closet poet? Have you always wanted to start your own blog? Do you enjoy playing with language? Do you like to tell stories? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should take this course! Writer's Workshop is a class where you can explore, practice, and hone your skill to become the writer you want to be. In this class, we will observe successful writers and writing styles. We'll identify and imitate highly effective sentences and well-placed words. We'll experiment with crafting various forms of fiction and nonfiction. And, most importantly, we will just write! Every successful writer has an editor or two. In this class, we will learn how to be our own best critic and how to be an editor for others. At the conclusion of this course, you will have created a portfolio of your best works to take to your next adventure. Creating Poetry by John Drury ISBN # 978-1-58297-463-7 Both of the above texts can be found on eBay or Thrift Books for around $5 Class size: minimum of 6 students Tuition: $400 per semester or $750 for the year (if paid in full by Sept 1) Supply fee: $100 / year paid by the first day of class (this fee covers some supplies and MAS administrative costs) Minimum class enrollment: 8 *Note: This class will not meet on January 3, 2024
