Course Objectives:

This year we will be using the “I Can” curriculum as a foundation for our course.  We will focus more on learning the language than learning “about the language”.  The objective is to be intentional with our learning goals and the student’s focus on communication; both comprehensible input and comprehensible output. Students will have the opportunity to be a part of Spanish Club as well as participate via Zoom in conversations with students from Colombia.

Our goals will align with the 5 different modes as described by the National Standards for 21st Century Language Learning:

·       Interpersonal (Person-to-Person)

·       Presentational Speaking

·       Presentational Writing

·       Interpretive Listening

·       Interpretive Reading

We will also focus on the 5 C’s of Foreign Language Education:

·       Communication

·       Cultures

·       Connections

·       Comparisons

·       Communities

This High School Spanish III course helps students:

·       Engage in language learning

·       Instigate and continue increasingly involved conversations, and respond appropriately to increasingly involved, or open conversational prompts

·       Read, write, speak, and listen for meaning in Spanish

·       Analyze and compare cultural practices, products, and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking countries

·       Regularly assess progress in proficiency through projects, test outs, and speaking/writing submissions

·       Prepare them for more advanced Spanish courses
