Prerequisite: At least I year of Latin study or participation in Latin 1A
Salvete! Welcome to the Latin class! A weekly, Monday class of 90mn. This class and all the activities attached to it will powerfully impact all of your other language classes. Your spelling will improve, and you will certainly see growth in your vocabulary. You will discover, in tracking down the origins of 60% of our vocabulary from Latin a new depth to our most common words. Latin and English grammar compliment and support each other, clarifying obscure points in both languages, all the while strengthening your writing skills. Forays into the history of ancient Greece and Rome and the mythology emanating from these two civilizations will broaden and deepen your understanding of English classics and of Western civilization. Word studies and derivatives are emphasized in all levels.
Classes at this level will cover in grammar: 5 declensions, regular and irregular verbs in all indicative tenses, 1/2/3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, demonstrative adjectives, relative pronouns and clauses, and various points of syntax . Translation skills will be reviewed and honed using more complicated sentence construction. We will investigate the history of Rome during the Republic, and delve more deeply into the mythology of ancient Greece and Rome.
1) Latin Magna Cum Laude a grammar manual which I wrote and which I will make available for sale which compliments the Ecce Romani curriculum.

3) A 2” binder and a small quantity of lined paper
Class size: minimum of 3 students
Tuition: $65/month for 9 months
Supply fee: $25/semester
A comprehensive and detailed handout will be available at the Open House specifically listing grammar covered in the coming year.
Preparation for the NLE (the National Latin Exam) will be included and incorporated into our class time. Students will be guided as to when and at what level they should undertake this exam which is totally voluntary. The preparation, however, which I find very helpful, is part of their curriculum.
