Fidelle Hopper began learning French as a small child at home. Her polyglot parents were both school teachers who took summer vacations seriously: they enrolled Fidelle and her siblings in summer camps in Quebec, Canada so that they would be immersed in the French language.

As part of an Honors BA in French at Case Western Reserve University, Fidelle developed a high school French curriculum based exclusively on French classical literature. She studied abroad at Université Laval in Quebec, and another year in southern France at Université Paul Valéry, Faculté des lettres. A postgraduate grant enabled her to travel three continents researching and comparing second language acquisition methods throughout the francophone world. After returning to the United States, Fidelle taught French and Music and directed school plays at University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, before leaving for her dream job: homeschooling.

Fidelle has taught for several homeschool co-ops, and written and directed musicals for private schools and for her church.  She loves to incorporate field trips, music and drama into her teaching, having found in 25 years of experience that students learn more thoroughly and remember longer the lessons they most enjoy. Believing that every day is “the day the Lord has made,” she is dedicated to seeing that her students always have reason to “rejoice and be glad in it.” Fun is a very serious part of the curriculum in Fidelle Hopper’s classes.
