Why learn Deutsch (“doych” – German) ?
German is the most widely spoken language in Europe.
In the United States, 1 in 6 people claim German ancestry.
Atlanta has over 250 German companies here doing business (Mercedes,Siemens, Porsche, etc.) with many more state-wide (Atlanta Magazine).
German is “the economic powerhouse in Europe.”
Germany ranks first among foreign countries with facilities in Georgia (Atlanta Business Chronicle).
A background in German can be particularly helpful for a career in engineering, science, medicine, and the arts.
Germans spend the most money as tourists in the world!
“Sprechen wir!” (Let’s speak!). Are you ready to jump on board and have a great time learning German through practical conversation, short poems, simple Bible verses, skits, and cultural experiences (such as cooking & tasting German food, visiting with local German-speaking people, etc.)? The main focus & goal of the class is to converse in German. We will speak in German as much as possible, and only use English to explain pesky grammatical concepts.
Homework will be done mostly online, using the interactive part of the textbook and workbook. Students should allow at least 45 minutes, 5 days a week for assignments.
This class will give you a full year’s worth of high school credit plus prepare you to take the A1 German test (offered at the Goethe Institute in Atlanta).
Text (and online access codes) will be supplied by the teacher .
Please bring something to write (notebook and pen, plus some colored pencils and sharpener), as well as the printed materials and a prong folder to every class.
